Ernest James ‘Jim’ Harper

CARROLTON, Ohio - Ernest James ‘Jim’ Harper of Penny Road, Carrollton died early Feb. 10, 2010 in his daughter’s home.

Born in Point Marion, Pa. Oct. 21, 1923, he was a son of the late Olie and Opal Shears Harper.

Jim grew up in Dellroy, Ohio and was a graduate of Dellroy High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving as a signalman on the USS Storm King. He was a retired contractor, woodworker and stonemason. In 1972 he moved to Darby where he remained until 2004 when he returned to Carrollton to reside.
Jim is survived by a son, David (Cindy) Harper of Montana; three daughters, Nancy (Michael) Grubb of Ariton, Ala., Linda (Steve) Shotwell of Carrollton, Judith (Jerry) Pruiett of Wills Point, Texas; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Harper of Magnolia; one sister, Clara Zak of Akron.

He was preceded in death by one son, C. James Harper; one daughter, Lori Harper; two brothers, Ralph and Harold Harper; and one sister, Ruby McCarty.

A private memorial service will be held at a future date in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton handled local arrangements.

This was my grandpa. He was 86 years old. He died of old age. Lori Harper was my mom. She was 38 years old. She died of lung cancer.
