Less is More; Subtle is Sexier; and Mystery creates greater intrigue
Sweet and adorable and mega-talented young man doesn't begin to describe Adam Lambert. He is, by far, one of the most uniquely talented individuals I have seen in decades. His appeal crosses both gender and age. His physical mask is beyond attractive to so many for so many reasons.
In our family, we are all professionals and have little free time. Personally I have never regularly watched a television show in my life until one random evening (perhaps in need of a diversion for one reason or another). And out of nowhere---I turned on the TV and saw this kid, Adam Lambert, performing "Satisfaction," one of his mom's favorite songs by her favorite group, the Rolling Stones.
That was that. Every week thereafter through the finale, regardless of other responsiblities, I watched ADAM perform, behaving as if he were a family member! I sat with clenched fists; tense and nervous; hoping he would not mess up; hit a bad note; freaking out when he crossed lines; concerned that he may have made others just a little too uncomfortable.
Fast forward. Adam, (temporarily) you have "made it." You are everywhere in Hollywood; on national magazine covers; in the news; on prime-time televsion, and in the daily fantasies of many a fan. You are an idol, but we don't believe in idols, do we?
Dearest Adam, don't forget the appeal of "the new guy in town." Don't forget the disingenuous nature of the industry and of "fame." You sang about it on your tour in your Bowie medley.
Until recently, I have observed that you have retained your sweetness, humility and authenticity. BUT take heed---the entertainment world is fickle, Adam. Rolling Stone covers; Details shoots, even an Oprah Winfrey show appearance--all of it is collectected and then disregarded and lost in the piles of other stuff in daily life; replaced with someone other figment or fantasy.
I love you dearly, but you need to go back to where you were before IDOL; be very cognizent of the ficklenss of fans and fame. You need regain your humility and subtlety. Less is more, occasionally. Why? Because, in order for you to continue to arouse delight in a variety of fans and maintain intrigue and appreciation for your astonishing talent, you need to show it to us--like you did that night on IDOL with Smokey Robinson---because you respected him. You did the song justice because you showed reverence and respect to this artist.
While we realize that you are young, excited and currently a "star," in our culture, stars burn out when they lose touch; with themselves and with what's important. If you want to maintain your popularity, show us your talent, over and over! Stay in touch with being a human being first. Then, let us hear and feel YOU; over the electronics and loud music.
Go unplugged! Go humble! Stop trying so hard to prove how you can shock us day after day. Let us be in awe of your God-given talent and quietly and continueously woo us. Then, surprise us. Talented and popular as you are at the moment, you have not been around long enough to get away with offending people. You are astonishing enough in so many repects.
Please continue to respect all kinds of people; all kinds of audiences and tolerance levels. You will grow on people; many people who perhaps were not fans; who doubted. But take your time; build your credibility and trust. Sing everything! Be a successful human being.
BTW---I am not loving your album cover; not because it is not beautiful, but because you look like a girl. Regardless of your sexual preference (which, by the way, is your choice and business, whatever that is), you are not a girl. You are quite masculine, in fact. Why look as if you are some bizarre feminine cartoon? You are multifaceted and complex; but many of us are. Give us a little more credit, please.
Don't doubt for one minute that there are many talented and brilliant individuals out here. Show us what you've got. Have reverance for all of us. Respect all of us all of the time and surprise us by offering us your many sides. Surprise us, but don't turn us off. Even the most liberal of us will turn off to c***iness and irreverence.
Please try not to get seduced by celebrites or define yourself by their current admiration and inclusion or desire to corraborate with you. Don't burn out before you have a chance to let us, your fans, revel in your brilliance. Let us see you a little bit at a time...one little head tilt and pelvic thrust at a time. One song from Brigadoon; with Noa Dori; with Cantor Pierce or with Lady Gaga. Let us enjoy all levels and aspects of your talent and let us fall in love with you, one person (all types of human beings) at a time. I am hoping to see you for a very long time.
Show us your range of talent. Not everyone wants to watch a halloween character all of the time; it gets old. I know you are excited, but use that brilliant business mind and past experience of what truly is awesome and get a grip. BTW if you can possibly do anything about that album cover----do it now. Love you.
