Official Statement from Adam Lambert:

As you may already have noticed, there is a new (old) track floating around that Adam sang vocals on. Here is Adam's official statement:

Back in 2005 when I was a struggling artist, I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else. I was broke at the time and this was my chance to make a few bucks, so I jumped at the opportunity to record for my first time in a professional studio.

The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on.

I'm thrilled to be working with some of today's hottest songwriters and producers and can't wait for people to hear what my music really sounds like.

I really had no idea you were already into the music industry before AI, Adam. I wouldn't dare try to disrespect you by buying something you did way back when but didn't consent to being sold to the public. This is certainly the first I've heard of it...although I am sure it is good because everything you sing is good. I'll be praying that these people don't get away with what they've done behind your back, and that nobody else tries to take advantage of you. As for you, keep your head up and keep moving forward so that you become the artist you aspire to be. You know whatever you make will be amazing and, as usual, delicious. Keep doin it up baby! BTW, I loved the suit you wore on the AMAs. Hot!

I don't think anyone from this site would buy something released before you let us know via this website. I think that is really low of whoever wants to get to you that way. They just realize that you are going to be bigger than life and the last laugh will be yours! We are all devoted fans of yours that will support you all the way!
Adam you are awesome and real and deserve only the best...just stay on track and screw them!

I'm sure Adam has nothing to be ashamed of with this music...we all know that several years have passed and have seen how wonderful he is now. I think he was wonderful then and even more so now. GO ADAM!

tbutterfly

Adam, your true fans are only going to be happy to hear more of you regardless of the quality of the demo or your intentions at the time. It's who you are today that counts and everything up to that made you where you are - good or bad - it built your professionalism, character and talent. If it was a recording of you singing in the shower - we would love it! lol (Have you considered that?) Eye-wink Hang in there and continue to roll with the punches. Welcome to fame - it's not always pretty unfortunately. Can't wait to hear your new stuff and not worrying about the old.

I still am unsure..some post state Adam does get money from our purchases while others say don't purchase. I wish we had the real Adam answer Smiling I don't want to buy it if he dosn't want us to! ADAM! ???

adamcrazyfan

how can HiFi treat Adam like that! how shameless they are!

annaberry

Nice try HIFI Recordings but nope, not buying your lie. And those who bought the song shouldn't feel bad for loving Adam's music. We all love Adam's voice or we wouldn't be here. HIFI Recordings and Wishire Records are simply trying to take advantage of us, the fans, in order to make a quick buck because they know there's a bit of a lull and a void right now. So shame on them. And no way, HIFI and Wishire aren't getting one thin dime out of me. I don't care what they claim now. Besides, if we want a "nostalgia" album, I'm sure Adam will be more than happy to put one together for us at some point in the future when he has some time. Right now he's too busy going on Tour and working on his new "real" debut album. Sounds a little like HIFI and Wilshire are kinda jealous of that. I guess you can't blame them. They had something good once and ooooops, too bad, you let it go..........

I think it says it all. He is disappointed. Do we want to disappoint him?

I for one, NO.

"Adam Lambert officially responded this evening to news that Hi Fi Recordings' upcoming disc, On With the Show, will contain eight tracks co-written and recorded by the singer before he achieved fame as American Idol's season 8 runner-up. Lambert's statement, released through a rep for 19 Recordings, is as follows:

"Last Friday I was surprised to find out that songs I recorded back in 2005 were being released. Since then I discovered the entire track listing, revealed online today. I was shocked to learn that songwriting demos of songs that I co-wrote and recorded over the past few years may be released in an album. Like a rough draft that a writer does before finishing a book, I did not intend my work on these demos to be heard by the public. I was unaware that anyone intended to release these recordings until I heard about it in the press, and I'm very disappointed by this entire situation."

So... I don't exactly know how "official statements" come to be, but this one has obviously not put the ke-bosh on the "On With The Show" controversy. Honestly, it doesn't matter one way or the other. Every artist needs to go through some growing pains before they begin to put out their best work. The stuff on "On With The Show" is O.K., but it's Adam's first attempt at an honest-to-goodness recorded album. This should have been released a long time ago, while he was trying to make it in the industry. Not now, when he has the best producers and songwriters in the palm of his hand. I would love to see Adam address this issue in a live interview. That's where he does his best work:-) Come on 19, honesty is Adam's best marketing strategy!

lambot

Adam did a live interview on comcast.net (the interview is on their site) and confirmed during the interview that he was indeed therealGlambert!

xoerriinnnxo

Okay, well I am GLAD to know that you didn't write those songs!

-I will make a long post after the concert at the Tacoma Dome in LESS than two weeks! I can't wait to see Adam up close (2nd row in the lower section near the stage) LIVE doing his thing! I'm especially looking forward to that song "Starlight". I wish the whole concert was just him! But...I'm sure some of the others will entertain nonetheless, especially Allison!

Cougar Girls have only the greatest respect for Adam, who was prepared to work hard and stay focused on his dream.
The world over, the privileged youths expect things to be handed on a platter. We all know that money cannot buy talent, and moreover, neither dedication nor guts.
My favourite writer and world's best selling author, Stephen King cleaned school bathrooms and toilets on the graveyard shift and often worked two jobs to provide for his family and persue a career as a writer.
He prides himself in his vast collection of rejection letters from publishers, which he got as a child from the start of his 'writing career'. He wrote some really bad horror stories (badly) and graduated into novels.
'Carrie' was written during (and as inspiration of) his time as a toilet-cleaner! The manuscript lay hidden under other work on a junior editor's table, where it stayed after he had published novels. If you want to know how he created 'Carrie' this way, you can read his non-fiction book called 'On Writing'.
By chance someone saw and read it one day - the book became a best seller and was his first work to go to the movie box-office, making obnoxious amounts of money.
I am sure his older works were re-published to cash in and catch the 'Stephen King' wave of dollars.
And so what if I sound like my dearly departed mother, she was right!

I really do hope that Adam recieves all royalties due to him, because although the song 'Want' is not an offical realise, it is a good song, not what you'd expect from Adam but it was pre-idol and he was most probably just finding his own sound at the time (as he said I was a struggling artist and needed the money) & I'm happy to say it isn't a bad one, although I do love Adam's ROCK sound more, because that's how we as fans know him & we love Adam no matter what music or sound he ventures with, so does it really matter??? as long as he gets the royalties owed for the work he's done x

I can't believe I'm still up watching Adam on You Tube and googling his name! I need to get a life! Anyway, this was just posted on TMZ 15 minutes ago, and it's a listing of the tracks on "On With the Show," and yes, Adam is listed with 50% songwriting splits on most of the tracks--50% him, and 50% Monte Pittman. Adam gets no songwriting credit for "Want," and another one written by Michael B something or other, but a few that we knew about, including "Crawl Thru The Fire," and "kiss and Tell," are listed. I bought "Want," and I'm buying this Album, because I want everything with Adam's name on it to be a success. I hope Heckler is telling the truth and Adam is making money (TMZ says they have it in writing). You know they can't always be believed, but since "Crawl Thru Fire," and "Kiss and Tell," are listed, I am inclined to believe it. I am sure 19 told Adam what to say, and I'm sure what he said about "Want" is the truth, but that may not be true of all the tracks. Here is the link: I am off to bed!

Back on topic, I am beginning to think there really is way too much drama around everyone who is saying don't support this song and the album from HiFi. Adam has a lot of fans who get very excited and protective of him, myself included at times! That's cool. But I don't think Adam really needs or wants everyone defending him at ever turn in his career. It starts to look a little desperate, ya know? Let's all take a deep breath and realize Adam is doing exactly what he wants now and is on track with his new album, his signature sound. Let's support him in a positive way. Bringing him light and positive energy. He is on the rise to stardom and I think in the big picture supporting anything he's done can only help him in the long run. Buying or not buying this song is a personal choice though. Will HiFi Recordings make money from it? Sure, but what can you expect? That's business.19 Recordings/RCA will make money from their Lambert album too. That's just the name of the game. Sure it may not be an ideal situation, but such is life. Most importantly, I will look forward with great anticipation to his 19 Recordings/RCA album at the end of year!! AND I have 2nd row seats to the Idol concert in two weeks! I can't wait! Let's give Adam positive energy everyone, positive energy!!

austingrrl

Yes!! That's what I'm talking about!! Support anything that has Adam's name on it! He is a big boy, and a smart one too. Just buy the song and show the world that Adam is the best, no matter what he's singing! Keep the Love flowing....

He is listed as therealGlambert. Yes, this has been confirmed as his official Twitter account.

He just tweeted a few hours ago: "On my way to songwriting session w the brilliant Sam Sparro!!"

commonsince

Yep, I'm new here but not new to Adam: I hope all the fans posting angry messages about HiFi all over the internet realize that they are not helping Adam. You are giving HiFi more publicity with the angry posts. I could understand if Adam sucked, but he doesn't. Adam is not sweating it and is currently recording his RCA debut and gearing up for the tour. Let's keep things in perspective and that means not coming off as a bunch of hysterical teenagers. Who are any of you to tell someone not to download Want from Itunes. It's not like it's a bad song and Adam did sing it. Get over it people and move on and stop all the drama. You guys are fueling the Hecker publicity tour with all the stupid "don't buy it" comments on youtube and any other place. Um...it's not that suprising that Adam did music before Idol. It's obvious he knows his voice very well and is familiar with what works in popular music. If anything, Want more than proves everyone's assertion that he can sing anything well. If the music connects, people will buy it. I bought Want off of Itunes and will buy anything by Adam. Let Adam continue to evolve as an artist and ignore HiFi and Hecker. You guys are hurting more than helping by being so protective. Adam is a big boy and can take (has taken) many punches. He's 6'1" people...move on and enjoy the wonder that is Adam Lambert. We all know the RCA debut will rock, shock, and roll. Let's move on people and get off the BITTER train...it's about Love right and we all love Adam. So let's move on...stop fueling the fire and let Adam be Adam. You guys seem to forget that this time last year, nobody knew who Adam Lambert was...his fans (following) needs to be careful about the "attack" mentality...watch Adam's extended Access Hollywood interview and how he looked at his loss on AI to see how chill he is as a person...he's a very positive person and his fans should reflect that...all this nastiness is disappointing...Adam is alive and well and writing with Sam Sparro according to his twitter.

annaberry

Just setting the record straight again. Adam stated at the end of this interview that he does not have a twitter account and that there are a lot of posers out there pretending to be him. Just something to keep in mind and I thought it was relevant considering the whole HIFI lie right now:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k58ICaGk7YY&feature=related

annaberry

This has to be pretty weird for Adam. Here he is working his butt off on his debut Album while also trying to get ready for the upcoming Idol Tour. In the meantime there are these fans screaming for more music and the demand becomes so huge that he can't possibly keep up. Then along comes HIFI offering a hungry audience a bulls*** "new single" for sale. So what's Adam supposed to do??? It's a free country. You can buy whatever you want. It must be frustrating though. Imagine reading that "your" new single is about to be released by HIFI Recordings along with your "new album"?????? You have to admit that has to be rather frustrating for him. Hopefully he's leaving it in the hands of his manager to make a public statement at some point, but at the same time what can they do?? I just hope that this does not cause Adam and RedOne to rush the "real" debut album just to satisfy the demand. I for one am willing to wait and as I said before, I will not buy "anything" from HIFI and (just my opinion), but why don't people at least wait until Adam releases his new debut album before considering purchases from any other sources?? What the heck is the rush?

In the meantime, here's some cool old tunes to listen to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_W8gD7fSnM&feature=related
And aaaaahhh, remember why we loved Bowie so much, and still do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wniGFm_jgRI

Also, some of us need to familiarize ouselves with the group "muse" as apparently Adam will be singing a song by them called Starlight while on the AI Tour.....sounds cool........

brilho

I believe Adam did put his heart in recording or co-writing those songs. I don't want any of his songs to be just buried away. Doesn't matter when he recorded it, good songs are timeless. Gotta give HiFi credit for recognizing Adam's talent. It's all those recording studios that might have rejected Adam that I despise. Don't really give a damn about the politics. All those companies are there to make money off Adam and us. That's alright! Adam, I truly love your voice, and I especially love your honesty. Don't lose that beautiful personality of your's.

wblackma

I won't be buying this song because IF Adam makes any money it won't be as much as he deserves! The song itself is about as exciting as the phone book. We know Adam can sing it but its still the phone book!

I also don't want to support HiFi records sleazy business practices. I will buy Adam's REAL debut album twice!!! I plan to download it off Itunes and buy the cd as well. Can't wait!! Smiling

redfrantic

Just like all of you guys here ...I am confused wether should buy that song or not because in one hand that song is beautiful and I love it but the other hand I don't want to supporting HiFi , so... I don't know ! But if his real album is coming ( this Fall ) definitely I will buy ( anything with his name on it).

ebonyandivory

I love Adam's voice and have lost the debate with myself of whether to buy "Want." His voice on that song is too beautiful to resist.

The article entitled "Adam Lambert's new album challenges "Idol" producer" influenced my decision. Canyou believe anything you read on the web?? I don't know! Article on www.reuters.com. Check it out and make your own decision.

If this can be believed, Adam will profit from this album BIG TIME! See for yourself.

allforAdam

I think that Adam only wants us to know that this HiFi album is an inferior production and does not even compare to his new stuff. I want to support him and I really would like to have anything that he sings or talks or whatever, but I am still trying to decide whether to buy. I feel conflicted because Adam did not have a choice in having this released, so I do not wish to support HiFi because of that.

austingrrl

People are buying this song. It's Adam. Why would we, his most loyal, devoted fans want something with his name on it to fail in front of the general public!?!?! I have to think that Adam knew what he was doing when he signed his contract with Wilshire records. I don't think he can legally promote this record now that he has a deal with RCA/19 Entertainment, so we are probably not going to hear from him either way on this.

Once again I say, why would WE, the most ardent of his fans want something with his name on it to fail?!? That just cannot be good for him or his future. The general public does not care about this behind the scenes stuff, but they, hopefully, recognize a superstar when they one, and if "Want" is already climbing iTunes, his fans should not be the reason it doesn't make it to the top.

His voice is amazing, as usual, and the lyrics are simple, but ring true. It's also catchy, so no wonder people are buying it.

Peace, vicki in Austin

BarTGila

People are buying this song. It is 45 on ITunes top 100 pop chart. That is two places ahead of Kris's Heartless. Even a demo from Adam is still Adam. It seems it is going to climb in the charts no matter if we buy it or not and Hi/fi put out a statement today saying Adam would make lots of money off of it. So do we support him and push it to the top of the chart? I wish he could come out and say yes or no but I am sure his contract will not let that happen. I bought the American Idol album and who knows if he gets any of the proceeds from that either. The music business is very murkey.....just ask the likes of George Michael and Prince who spent half their careers in courts fighting major record labels. I have bootleg albums from the 60's and I am sure the artists did not want those out. Guess it is time to decide which way to jump.......I will buy all his works because he is evolving should not matter. It is all his wonderful voice.....

robbinsroost

Here is the link to Heckler's statement where he says that Adam will receive royalties. I am still torn about this, because I do not want Adam to have something out which does not sell. I do not trust Heckler's timing at all, but it could be that "Want" is a demo, and maybe the other songs are not? I don't know. I do imagine RCA/19 told Adam what to say in regards to this issue, and he probably is not at liberty to say "Do or Do Not Buy the Hi-Fi" recordings. I understand Adam is moving in a different direction, but one of the things I like most about him is his versatility. The more I listen to "Want" the better I like it, though it does sound cheaply produced. If I knew for sure that Adam was getting royalties from the sale of the Hi Fi work, I would buy it.

lambertfan57

I have not and will not buy the Hifi material unless Adam is getting royalties, so I'd like to see it in print that he is getting royalties because my understanding is that he was already paid in the past for the demos and the other studio work and that he did NOT write the music they are releasing, so what is the real scoop? Clue me in. Have I missed a public statement somewhere?

adamsdabomb

I'm confused. I heard Adam would be getting royalties from this album and that he wrote a lot of the material. I understand it's not what he's doing now and it's from the past...but...I like it and I don't think he actually said "don't buy it". Yes, he is clearly distancing himself from it due to his new sound and new contract. But if he get's a cut of it, doesn't it support him to buy it? I do want to support Adam in all that he does. His voice is so beautiful on it and the message is so pure.
