Re: Adam Lambert Performs at the AMA's

Plain and simple for me. The awesome FYE music video is exciting, mysterious and dangerously fun and sexy. But the AMA performance felt forceful like a rape. For me personally, it had nothing to do with "who" was being groped, but rather "how" it was being done. In complete contrast to the video, the live performans was not a seduction but rather it appeared as a display of people being grabbed and forced sexually. Intention or not, this is what it looked like from my perspective. I realize the artist/Adam was toying with the idea of bondage, control, and rough sex due to lyrical content, but I think it was done way to literaly. The question that still remains for me though is whether this was the artists' intention. Us "older" generation come from a different age and type of shock rock and this new artist may have simply been waging his own type of GWAR. Those that loved the shock value of the live performance may also have enjoyed a Marily Manson concert or two, and those from an older generation, may have been devoted fans of Iggy Pop. It certainly is a matter of perspective, but undoubtedly the AMA performance will forever remain controversial as opposed to the music video which is already receiving strong positive reviews.

So what does the artist do then? Should he just play it safe in an effort to make everyone happy? Let's hope not because if every artist did that we would surely live in a very dull boring world with no room for creative expresion and individuality.

I say Rock on Adam Lambert and know that your devoted fans are still here cheering you on. We were here yesterday, we are here today and we will be there tomorrow. A few not so perfect performances would never be enough to turn me away.

Love, love, love your new CD and am so looking forward to seeing you in concert, soon I hope.

For those who love listening to Adam's interview as much as me, here are two very good recent ones. Both are similar with different interviewers. Enjoy, these are both quite long and should feed your Adam fix for a while:

I love this one because if you listen to them all, at one point, he mentions his passionate fans.
