My Awesome Adam Experience
I MET ADAM YESTERDAY!! I am beyond excited, and I want to share the experience that I had with Adam because it was really wonderful and beautiful, and he exceeded all of my expectations.
Anway, my mom and I are from Eugene, and we left at around 8AM, and arrived in Portland at about 10AM. The guy near the parking lot was completely wrong and told us that the idols wouldn't come out before the show. It was really early and the barricades weren't set up yet, so we just left to try to find the hotel and search out Adam there.
When we got to the hotel I went in and talked to the receptionist. She told me that she couldn't say if they were there, but that if they weren't there she would just say they weren't there. So I knew they were there, but I didn't just want to hover there awkwardly, so we made our way back to the arena. At about 12 noon we got there and saw the barricades set up so we went down and started to wait.
Finally, at around 2PM we started seeing people come out. First it was Anoop and Matt, and then Allison, and slowly they started filtering out. Finally, I heard the screams and saw Adam. I decided then and there that I wasn't going to wait until he made it up to us, I was going to go to him. I grabbed my bag that I knit, and the gift for him (three books: "Survivor" by Chuck Palahniuk who wrote Fight Club, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer who wrote Everything is Illuminated, and "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" which is a play by Tom Stoppard), and my camera and I ran down there as fast as I could. I managed to get close to him really quickly and I said "ADAM!! I have a gift for you," and I handed him the bag. I said to him "they're books," and he looked right at me with a big grin on his face and said "Oh my God! I LOVE BOOKS!!" I couldn't believe it, and I just said to him, "can I give you a hug," and still smiling he just laughed and said "oh, of course!" I gave him a huge hug, and I told him that he's amazing, and I asked if I could take a picture with him. He said yes, of course, and I got what I've been wanting ever since I bought tickets for the concert. He put his arm around me and flashed that amazing smile, and that was it. Then I showed him the bag I knit, and told him that even though everyone said I should give it to him, I couldn't help keeping it because I loved it too much. He said that the bag was really cool and laughed and it was adorable. So I said thank you for the picture, and he said "thanks for the books! That's the best kind of present." Then I ran off like a maniac.
I have to say, I've never been so excited in my life. I was literally shaking out of excitement, I actually think I was in shock. When he was hugging me he probably couldn't believe that I was shaking like a rabbit. But I don't care!! I got to meet him and hug him. And he was sweet and sexy, and he smelled amazing. It was the best ever.
Here's the picture. I love that you can't really see anyone else in it because that's totally how I felt. For that moment (I don't think I talked to him for more than a few minutes) I felt like he and I were the only two people there. I just remember him. Enjoy!! http://www.adamofficial.com/photos/adam-and-i-1

There was a barricade. It felt like there wasn't, but there was. I just ran down to where he was so that I didn't have to wait. And the handler lady was there, but he had just come out so she wasn't really saying anything. It was mostly after the show in Portland that she was keeping him from taking pictures with people anyway.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I really enjoyed reading it, and it gives hope to the rest of us knowing someone got a picture with Adam without having to "know someone."
Tell me though - Was there no barricade up? Cause you said you just ran up to him. And where was that handler lady? I've seen her in a few videos and she moves him along quickly and allows no pictures.
you do have to be aggressive if you want to meet Adam. If you stand and wait for him to come to you, you're gonna be standing there a very long time. Great gifts for him, too. Who doesn't like to read. And your picture is just adorable.
No problem!! What concert are you going to? I really hope you get to meet him. It's completely amazing.
I'm worried that a ton of people are going to send him books and he's going to get overwhelmed. Oh well, I guess you can't have too many books.
You are soo frickin luckyyy!! he is SOO nice and sweet 2 his fans!! And cool he lyks books! Im gonna send him some!
Did anyone have a good experience in Tacoma? I've heard Adam was hard to access.
to hear all about people's experiences in Tacoma.
It was somewhere between really soft and a tight squeeze. Honestly, he hugged me the way a friend would hug me. It was really as if I already knew him, and he was hugging me as if we hadn't seen each other in a long time. It was perfect and friendly and wonderful. It's impossible to describe.
I was shaking. Like, uncontrollably, all through my body. I couldn't believe what was going on. Even now, if I didn't have the picture, I wouldn't believe it. Even with the picture I barely believe it. I really think that he probably thought something was wrong with me because I was shaking like a leaf.
He is very tall. I bet his boots add a bit. He's a couple inches taller than my boyfriend so hugging him was very comfortable and familiar.
I agree. You need to be patient, but know what you want to do and be prepared to just go for it. You can't be nervous or second guess yourself, you just have to do it because chances are he's not going to be out there for very long.
oh, and how tall are you? he seemed like he towered above ya. lol.
snuffle, I know I commented yesterday, but I want to let everyone know you have to scope out the area and be ready to take full advantage of any opportunity you see to meet Adam. As long as you stay behind the barricades, security isn't an issue.
You have to think and be somewhat aggressive but very polite at the same time. As they say the "early bird gets the snake.....oh I mean the worm !!
Yours is coming up!! Have fun and good luck trying to meet him!
Truly Awesome. Thanx for sharing.
I see him Wed. night in Vancouver.
I love how you just threw caution to the wind and ran right up to him (not like a maniac of course LOL!) How special that you could hand your gift right to him and experience his appreciation. Thanks for sharing.
trying to plan what I'm going to do when he goes on tour alone. I think I have a good gift idea (for his solo tour I have to give him something!), and maybe next time I'll think to put my e-mail address or something in the letter! Crazy me...not thinking.
feels like u've won a lottery that day right? omgg!!
You have a memory to treasure for the rest of your life. And you not only got a hug from the man but you even got to speak to him! It probably seemed like hours to on looker envious of your boldness. Way to go! This story, the pic the hug makes you practically a royal Glambert 2nd to only Chaotica! WTG WTG god in order to beat your story someone from off these boards would have to get a personal item given to them to beat it
WTG!
Man did sewing that bad bring you good luck! I think Adam would have thought it was hilarious you decided to keep the bag after everyone said give it. Hearing your story really gives us overseas a real treat thanks so much! I'm over the moon for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that's my girl! so nice of you to brave security and all...am really happy for you!
thanks for sharing with us your exciting moment with Adam.
Thanks everyone for being so nice. I really hope you all get to meet Adam as well!! You just have to be determined and not take no for an answer!! Haha, not quite, but really. Plan well and DON'T GIVE UP!! Early in the day I thought I wasn't going to get my chance, but I did and it worked out amazingly.
Thank you guys again for the love and light!! Adam should be happy to have such wonderful fans.
Sooo happy for you...
since he has so much time on the bus!
You are so lucky.
I gave him three books. One is actually a play, and the other two are novels. I put the titles down below, but I'll add them to the story. I didn't write anything in the books, but I wrote a letter and stuck it in the bag with them. I wish I'd included my e-mail address or something. I want to know how he likes them!
Glad you got to meet Adam,, I really hope I get to meet him in August when I go see the Idol tour... Great pic of you two...
That's great you were allowed to get that close to him. Surprised someone didn't stop you when they saw you coming. That picture is priceless !! Loved how he kept saying "of course."
YAHHH!! I have hope of meeting him now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm jealous in a good way and I'm way happy for you! Thanks for the details!! now I gotta convince my mom to take me out of the first day of school. I think I'm getting somewhere! But yes I'm happy for you!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for sharing all the details. Last year when I went everyone had their place at the meet n greet and no one moved AT ALL, haha. But most of the idols had time to go down the line and get to everyone, but it was later in the tour so maybe they had more time. Ive been thinking of getting him a gift also, but trying to think of something original. Oh well, I still have over 2 months to think about it , lol. Awesome story!
everywhere he goes he always tries so hard to sign as many as he can for his fans. never turning down a request for a hug/phototaking. i remember the vid where he's bundled into the van with fans trailing and screaming and running after him and all he kept screaming was "be careful! be careful!" LOL
this boy is a sweetheart -he knows how to treasure and treat his fans right!
Partly because of meeting Adam and talking with him. And because you had the nerve to do it. I had the opportunity to talk with Paul from Peter, Paul, and Mary., I simply turned around and went the other way. I never want to do that again.
Wonderful story! He really is fabulous man!
