based on a pre-idol photo, 18 x 18" in chalk pastel on 80lb drawing paper. It looks so amazing in real life it's really hard to describe how the image fails it. The lights really stand out and he looks almost real. This is about life size actually.
This is pretty much the most epic thing I've ever done, I estimate time at about 6 hours, maybe a little more. The medium is so strange. I pretty much never use pastels.
edited to upload new scanned version! much better quality.

. but the results are amazing. In real, it gives a really amazing surface with lots of depth and light play.
yuppers! took me a while to get it to cooperate. it's an odd medium and takes some futzing to get it right

@farikaka
the photo for adam that I used was from a few years ago when he was a bit gaunt, perfectly suited to the time period that this drawing accidentally emulates.... some of what you're experiencing is light-play. it's not paint either. it's chalk, you really gotta get in there and layer it and blend it with your fingers. I still have some of it up in my fingernails!
nope!
it is nice,but adam is old in this painting.isn't he?
5 stars cat...the best you have done
